Citi Logik, the UK big data start-up company which provides advanced mobile network data (MND) analytics from the 3/4G and emerging Internet of Things (IOT)/4G connectivity grids is pleased to announce that it has been awarded £1.1 million by the UK’s Innovation agency, Innovate UK, to develop a real-time platform capable of multi modal (vehicle, foot, public transport) analysis from the most comprehensive sensor network available, the 3/4G network. This new platform will be called CitiWatch and will focus on developing techniques for real-time modal & wider IoT analysis with the aim of enhancing intelligent mobility. The funded project is a significant, complex, technical build and is a logical transition from Citi Logik’s previous non-real-time Location Analytics services to fully tested real-time data feeds.
As a part of the project, Citi Logik’s new platform technology will be fully tested in a field trial supported by a proven Research Technology Organisation. Citi Logik will partner with:
+ Worcestershire County Council under the sponsorship of the Council’s Head of Strategic Infrastructure and Economy; and
+ Peel Ports Group with its £400m deep-water container terminal, Liverpool2 with the sponsorship of its Commercial Director
The exploitation of the solution will be refined with advice from teams from KPMG, tested with QinetiQ and facilitated through a living laboratory in the Urban Innovation Centre (Future Cities Catapult). Citi Logik’s exploitation plans are to offer policymakers in UK urban areas new subscription services to improve transport planning. Citi Logik’s technical expertise will also be exported to other countries.
Responding the award from Innovate UK, Stephen Leece, Citi Logik’s Managing Director said:
“Citi Logik has unique access to anonymised data from the 3/4G network which allows us to create comprehensive and high value understandings of the urban environment. This Location Analytics capability is genuinely innovative, capturing anonymized and aggregated information from millions of ever-moving SIM cards (mobile phones), facilitating study across the city, every minute of every day, for every major road, rail route and pedestrian walkway. Citi Logik complies to the highest global standards of data protection and individual privacy and our business is to make sense of cities, the Internet of Things and the urban environment by understanding movements by vehicle, on foot and by public transport. We have developed new ways of identifying and analysing demand activity, which we apply to complex spatial challenges in the sectors of transport, intelligent mobility, smarter cities and the built environment.
“UK business is fortunate to have access to the advice, funding and relationship networks facilitated by Innovate UK and its associated ‘Catapult movement’. This project helps Innovate UK achieve its stated goal of supporting the UK in leading the intelligent mobility sector and using enabling technologies to leverage a smarter, greener and more efficient transport system for the movement of people and goods around the world. As the Internet of Things takes a grip of the objects of everyday City Life and urbanisation takes a grip of humanity I can’t think of a loftier, more important goal for the survival of the human race.”
